A lack of a killer instinct in front of goal condemned Harriers to a second away defeat in four days as newly promoted Guiseley netted a late winner.

Adam Boyes, who scored his first professional goal against Harriers in an FA Trophy tie for York before joining Harriers in a loan spell in 2010, looped a header over Dean Snedker just five minutes from time to give the 'Lions' their second home win in a week as they adapt to life at a higher level.

Harriers Manager Gary Whild reflected, "Football can be cruel at times but the adage is that goals change games and, from being in a situation where we should have been comfortable and in the lead, the goal at the other end knocks the stuffing out of the lads. As a manager, I look at the group of players today and I don't think that, apart from the obvious in scoring a goal, they could have done any more than that today".

He added, "I thought there were a lot of good performances today and some of the quality of the play was good - we just lacked that killer instinct and if you don't take your chances, that's always likely to happen".

Guiseley started brightly, Jake Lawlor hitting a fourth minute volley that deflected wide of Snedker's right hand post. The home side looked to break with pace, Wayne Brooksby looking dangerous in the wide area but his delivery never matched the build up.

Boyes forced Snedker into the game's first save, shooting on the turn after good work by Tom Craddock and it was Craddock who went close on 21 minutes as Snedker made another stop.

Harriers gradually took a foothold and the talented Tahvon Campbell showed why he is an exciting prospect by causing many problems for Will Hatfield and Rob Atkinson in the home defence.

On 32 minutes an audacious effort from Adam Dawson almost broke the deadlock. From fully fifteen yards inside his own half Dawson, spotted home keeper Steven Drench on the edge of his area and his long range strike sailed over the retreating keeper landing just a yard the wrong side of the left hand post.

In time added on at the end of the half Reece Styche spurned a great opportunity, heading over from close range from Campbell's centre.

Snedker was called into action to deny Boyes on 53 minutes turning over a fierce rising drive from 18 yards before the visitors took full control of the game.

Styche should have netted when one on one with Drench but the striker took a heavy first touch from Gurjit Singh's pass and the keeper was out to smother, Luke Maxwell and Singh also went close with headers before Drench tipped over a Jake Green cross that took a wicked deflection off Hatfield.

Just as Harriers looked likely to score, Lawlor broke up another promising raid and played the ball out to substitute Ryan Toulson. The full back delivered a right wing cross that found Boyes in front of Jordan Tunnicliffe and his looping header beat the diving keeper to nestle in the bottom left hand corner of the net and secure the three points for the home side.
