New Harriers boss issues his orders

Kidderminster Harriers' new head coach Dave Hockaday has demanded his side tighten up after seeing his side surrender the points to set-pieces.

Hockaday, whose appointment was confirmed late on Friday night, witnessed a poor first-half showing against Macclesfield on Saturday.

Harriers fought back in the second-half but it was too little too late, as they went down 2-1 and remain rooted to the bottom of the National League.

Poor defending at corners cost Harriers dear and Hockaday said: "It was a game of two halves and, in the first-half, we were nowhere near good enough.

"And yet, for all their dominance, Macclesfield have scored from two corners and that cannot happened again. In the second-half we changed the shape but, more importantly, I changed the attitude.

"We were more aggressive with our starting possession, we got more of the second ball and we passed more with a purpose.

"We scored and they were reeling – on another day, with better finishing and better decision making around the box, we could certainly have got something from the game.

"But what I would say is that, when you're 2-0 down, it's easy to be brave – and I need players who are going to be brave at 0-0 or when we're 1-0 up.

"We finished the game strongly and I am happy with that, but the first half was nowhere near good enough."

Tony Diagne put Macclesfield ahead on the half-hour, netting from a corner after his first effort had been blocked by Kevin Toner.

Seven minutes later came the second goal, again from a corner. George Pilkington's effort was blocked but Danny Rowe netted from 15 yards.

Harriers got one back when Jordan Murphy swept the ball home with 15 minutes left.
