Halesowen Town's interest in this season's FA Cup ended after National League North side Nuneaton Town grabbed two second-half goals.

But the outcome may have been different if a 61st-minute screamer from Greg Pearson had not struck the post, with Nuneaton goalkeeper Jordan Smith beaten.

Manager John Hill also hailed Halesowen's great effort against a full-time team, with just small margins determining the result.

Aaron Williams had a 16th-minute effort ruled out for offside for Boro after Elliott Whitehouse's shot was parried by home goalkeeper Matt Sargeant.

But the Yeltz more than held their own in a goalless first half. The hosts went close in the 61st minute when Pearson's 20-yard thunderbolt shot rebounded off the post.

Nuneaton capitalised on that escape to take the lead two minutes later when James Clifton's shot deflected up for Aaron Williams to nod home.

As the Yeltz sought an equaliser, Joe Hull stole in to meet a 75th-minute free-kick from Aaron Griffiths but blasted the ball over the bar.

Sargeant then saved a fierce half-volley from Nuneaton substitute Rob Duffy. Boro made the tie safe in the 82nd minute, when Whitehouse fired a fine strike into the top corner.
