This shocked the Boro, who looked certain to take a back-to-back league victories thanks to a second-half penalty from ex-Wolves youngster Nathan Rooney.

For the second league match running, Neil Kitching's side had to come from behind when ex-Rangers defender Liam Holt hit a pinpoint free-kick straight into the top corner.

The visitors should have doubled their lead within nine minutes when a cross by Cameron Lee found Mitchell McDonald free in the box, but his volley flew wide.

Despite looking second best, the Boro were level in the 19th minute when Ryan Edmunds ran clear out wide before crossing to Nick Wellecomme for his first goal of the season.

Rangers took the lead in the 62nd minutes after Ben Haseley was bundled over in the box by Mark Branch, allowing Rooney to slot home the penalty.

The hosts should have sealed their victory with seven minutes remaining when Wellecomme looked to be through on goal and could have squared the ball to Daniel Cope, but a bad touch lost the chance.

Then a defensive mix-up allowed Henery Eze to poke home an extremely late equaliser.
