New Kidderminster Harriers chairman Rod Brown is in "no doubt" Gary Whild will remain in charge – despite the manager considering his position this summer.

Brown admits to having feared Whild might walk away without last week's resignation of former chairman Ken Rae, along with directors Gino Ruffinato and John Davies.

Brown had already backed Whild, his one-time Redditch United assistant, as the best man to be in charge of team affairs at Aggborough.

And he is confident of persuading his former colleague to stay on, despite the likelihood of a significantly reduced playing budget next season and Whild admitting he will think about his future.

Rae, Ruffinato and Davies resigned after an intervention by major shareholders and Brown said: "I am quite close to Gary.

"Above all else, he loves the club. I don't think there is any doubt he has found it hard this season and had the shareholders not done something then he might have made a different decision.

"I think he believes if the club is run properly then he is happy."

Whild had become increasingly frustrated after being forced to offload a host of key players over the course of the campaign due to the club's worsening finances.

He revealed last week the intention to make a decision on his own future at the end of the season.

But he has since described Brown's appointment as a "positive move" and the new chairman is keen they work together in order to take the club forward.

He said: "At the end of the day, we want to keep Gary. I don't think there is any doubt he will be here."

Whild said: "I have an affinity with the club now and I would hate to leave it behind, but it's only right that I clear my head at the end of the season and have a think about the best way to move forward.

"If that means me still being manager, then great."
