Harriers boss expects Jamille Matt bids

Kidderminster Harriers manager Steve Burr believes striker Jamille Matt won’t be the last of his young guns to attract attention from other clubs.

Football League club Northampton have had three bids rejected for Matt, after eight goals in 15 starts in his first full season at Aggborough.

The 22-year-old has seen his star has rise quickly in 13 months of full-time football, previously playing for semi-pro outfit Sutton Coldfield Town.

And Burr claims there are several potential suitors for Matt and other members of his young side, who are nine games unbeaten in the Blue Square Premier.

The Harriers boss said: “There are a lot of clubs who are interested in him and I am pleased about that – he is doing very well with us at the moment and I am sure that will continue.

“I know that there are clubs watching him and watching one or two others, as well.”

Burr has pointed out that Harriers are no longer in a position where they are desperate to sell and will want top dollar for any of their stars.

This time last year, the club were on the verge of administration with players and staff going unpaid but that storm now appears to have passed.

He said: “It is a lot different to this time last year, when we were obviously feeling it and had to look at getting rid of players.

“Hopefully, that is not the case now and we can build on what we’ve got.

“With the young players here, you know it can be hard to keep them, because you want to see them progress.

“But, at the same time, we want them to progress with us and get us into the Football League.

“We have already set targets out ourselves, a couple of players we would like to bring in.”
