Lee Hendrie named in Harriers squad
Friday 25th November 2011, 6:45AM GMT.
Lee Hendrie was today passed fit to make his Kidderminster Harriers debut and first-ever Blue Square Premier appearance against Cambridge at Aggborough.
The former Aston Villa and England midfielder as recovered from a thigh strain and will be named in the squad to face the U’s tomorrow.
Harriers boss Steve Burr has refused to be drawn on whether Hendrie will start, especially after back-to-back wins in the last two games.
If he does feature, the 34-year-old will become the first capped England international to play for Harriers since West Brom old-boy Jesse Pennington nearly a century ago.
Hendrie will also play in non-league’s top tier for the first time in his career in a high-stakes game for Burr’s men, against their fourth-placed visitors.
The hosts are eighth but just three points separate the two teams going into play, with Cambridge losing their nine-match unbeaten run in midweek.
The U’s are ‘plus five’ better off than their hosts on goal difference, which will decrease doubly with each goal conceded in a head-to-head scenario.
And Burr has urged the Aggborough crowd to play their part as the team look to charge back towards the promotion places.
He said: “The crowds have been very good here at home this season and they have been getting right behind the players and giving them encouragement, as they have done away.
“Tomorrow, as it has panned out, is a big game for us and a fantastic opportunity for us, so hopefully as many as possible will come along.”
Harriers can also welcome another midfielder into tomorrow’s match-day squad, with Kyle Storer fit again after a fractured cheekbone.
