Harriers expect quiet loan deadline
Thursday 24th November 2011, 6:45AM GMT.
Kidderminster Harriers today insisted they are not expecting to do any transfer business before the end of the loan deadline.
Harriers rate any players coming to Aggborough as unlikely, especially with three players set to return from injury for Saturday’s visit of Cambridge.
Just one player is at the club on loan, David Bird, who is due back at Cheltenham after the weekend but is eligible to extend his deal outside of the window, which closes today.
Bird may leave anyway after Harriers signed former Aston Villa and England midfielder Lee Hendrie, while Kyle Storer and Jack Byrne are two of the three that could return on Saturday.
That’s three central midfielders who come back into contention while captain Mike Williams – who, like Byrne, has been out for over a month – could join them in the squad.
Harriers face a Cambridge side whose nine-match unbeaten run ended in midweek and Steve Burr’s men could climb above their visitors and into the play-off spots with an emphatic victory.
And striker Jamille Matt, who struck an injury time winner at Cambridge last season to lift Harriers into the top five, believes his side are capable of upsetting the U’s again.
He said: “We beat Cambridge in August and some might argue that they were the better team that day. But the one thing we were was ruthless. We had two big chances and took them both.
“It was difficult for them to get back into it after that. Since then they have climbed above us in the table but we know a win will keep us up there.”
