Wolves Women excited for their biggest FA Cup test yet

Wolves Women boss Dan McNamara says they are full of excitement heading into tomorrow’s huge FA Cup clash with Blackburn.

Wolves, currently at step four, have beaten level three sides Nottingham Forest and Watford in the competition over recent weeks.

Now, they are getting ready to host second-tier Rovers at Telford’s New Bucks Head, and McNamara insists it is another occasion they will embrace.

“Excitement is the word. We’ve never come up against a Championship team – certainly under myself – so the girls are really excited,” he said.

“It’s an opportunity they deserve, have worked hard for, so we’ll be going into it full of confidence and looking forward to seeing what we can produce.

“Any time you go to opposition from the league above and beat them, you take a lot of positives out of it.

“We went down to Watford with a game-plan, and we executed it perfectly.

“This game is going to look a hell of a lot different.

“Blackburn have been around the block and are a well-established Championship team with some fantastic international players who have just come back from representing their countries.

“It’s going to be a real tough ask and nobody is expecting anything from us, but we’ll give a good account of ourselves again and enjoy the moment together.”

After the disappointment of having a second successive league season curtailed, the Cup has given Wolves the opportunity to be back doing what they enjoy most.

Chairman Jeff Shi is set to be watching once again as well

“Every occasion gives us an opportunity to extend our season. That’s the key,” said McNamara.

“Our season ends after the FA Cup, so you can see that real passion to keep on going from the girls.

“It’ll be a fantastic moment for the club, in a great stadium at Telford – our first time up there.

“We’ve trained there this week which was really important, to make sure we felt at home, and the girls have loved it.”

McNamara added: “I think Jeff and the board will be there again, which is fantastic for us.

“It’ll be a really good moment for us to remember and cherish for years to come.

“We’re really looking forward to expressing ourselves and seeing where it takes us.”
