Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has showered his 'amazing' attackers with praise after a tactical tweak up top worked wonders at Southampton.

Nuno's charges came from two down to win 3-2 at St Mary's on Saturday – and the forwards were the driving force behind the sensational comeback.

Switching to a 3-5-2 system for the second period, Pedro Neto was operating in behind Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore.

Neto then started the turnaround with a close-range strike, while Raul Jimenez chipped in with a brace and Traore came up with a couple of assists.

And Nuno said: "We just put Adama more in the middle. And when it immediately reproduces, it's a big, big step for you.

"The players did very well, so well done to them. Amazing. Very proud.

"Raul had a couple of chances in the first half, but this is it as a striker.

"You have your chances and sometimes you don't take them, but you don't ever give up. Raul doesn't give up, so we are delighted with Raul.

"We did it during the game, so the credit is for the boys.

"For the fans too – after the first goal, they kept pushing us and took us through the game."

Jimenez's brace saw him surpass his tally for the whole of last season (17), getting his 18th and 19th goals of the term in all competitions.

One was from the penalty spot, and the other was set up by Traore – who also came up with the cross for Neto's goal.

For Neto, getting on the scoresheet was particularly sweet after being denied by VAR in the FA Cup loss at Manchester United.

He also had a goal chalked off by the technology at Liverpool over Christmas.

"He's been sad – these two moments of individual glory he has being taken away," said Nuno.

"But he is a young boy and he deserves that goal."

Nuno, though, was still keen to point out the need for reinforcements this month.

When asked about the resilience of his team after coming from 2-0 down, Nuno added: "If the result was another one, we'd be speaking about other things.

"So, we are aware. It's been very demanding on the players, but it's a challenge we're embracing. We love to compete, enjoy competing.

"But we still need players. We still need players who can help us and improve us."
