Wolves defender Ryan Bennett: Let's show what we're about

Ryan Bennett wants Wolves to show people what they're all about as they eye up a first Premier League win today.

Leicester City are the opposition as Nuno Espirito Santo's team look to build on last weekend's opening day draw with Everton.

Bennett says Wolves took a while to adjust against the Toffees last weekend – and that there's no hiding place in the top flight.

"It’s new to quite a lot of people at the club and last year was something that we wanted to build on and we did that so now it’s up to us to go and enjoy ourselves and try and put into work what we’ve done for the last year and go and show people what we can actually do in this league," Bennett said.

"I think to get the point in the end showed good character.

"(In the Premier League you have good weeks, you have bad weeks, I’ve been to places in the Premier League and got results, I’ve been to places where you should maybe get a result and you don’t and it is harsh, there’s no hiding place.

"Everyone sees the games, throughout all the countries, throughout all the TV, it’s on Match of the Day, there’s no hiding place, every game you can access.

"You do get found out in this league and I’ve been in positions where we’ve been found out and then you’ve been in positions where you’ve enjoyed the success that you do get.

"I think it’s important that you do do that and when you do get success you have to enjoy it because there are going to be some tough times and it’s how you get through them."

Ruben Neves starred for Wolves last weekend with a goal and an assist against the Toffees as he announced himself on the Premier League stage.

Bennett believes the 21-year-old midfielder has what it takes to get to the top – but cited Neves' mature character as being as important as his ability.

"His football ability speaks for itself – everyone can see it and everyone knows how good he is – but if you speak to everyone around the club and within the club, you’ll probably get more positive answers about the person that he actually is.

"He’s the most genuine person, a real nice person, and I think that goes throughout everyone that he meets. He’s got time for everyone and it’s refreshing to see.

"That’s as positive as you can be because his football ability does talk for itself and everyone knows he’s got potential to be a top, top player but I think the character that he is will go a long, long way as well with it."

Wolves face their 'local derby' this season when they make the short trip to the East Midlands today to take on Claude Puel's Leicester.

Bennett knows it'll be a tough test – but says Wolves will 'take some stopping' too if they play to their best.

He added: "You watch their previous game against Man United, they played really well, they played the ball around the back, they kept the ball a lot the more in what previous years what they have done.

"They’ve got that quality with Vardy in behind, he’s scored a lot of goals for the last few seasons and now they’ve brought sort of Demarai Gray with his pace, James Maddison will be in them pockets, playing through balls on the turn. But we’ll work on that and we’ll stick together and try and negate that.

"It will be a difficult game, they possess some good players, good pace, good power so it will be tough but we know if we play to our full potential then we’ll take some stopping as well."

Like Leicester, Wolves have hopes of finishing in the top 10 this season.

Bennett knows Wolves are capable of a successful season – but warned against thinking it'll be anything but tough over the next nine months.

"There’s a lot of expectation on Wolves," he added.

"You listen to a lot of people and they talk top 10, top six, they talk all these things, but I’m realistic it’s going to be tough.

"At the same time if we can put together all the things we’ve tried to put together over the last 14 months then there’s no reason we can’t achieve some of the things that people are talking about

"But people do need to be realistic and assess it and realise how hard the season is going to be."
