Since Fosun's £30million takeover in 2016 the club's hierarchy has repeatedly stated their ambitions to make Wolves a recognisable brand in China with a large fanbase.

Chairman Jeff Shi said that with the team flying high at the top of their Championship their presence was being noticed.

"If we get promoted we will go there this summer," he said.

"We're doing things on social media in China and I think we have a fanbase there, a small fanbase.

"Gradually we're trying to release the Wolves news there. In China the fans know Wolves are doing well from nowhere. I think two or three years ago they only know the big Premier League clubs. The Championship still isn't broadcast live there.

"But now more and more attention is going to the Championship and Wolves are on top so far.

"We're trying to build a profile there. It's still low but we need to be in the Premier League and do well there to build a large fanbase.

"Fans in China know what we're doing, they know Fosun, they know we're trying to build the club.

"They're quite interested in seeing the development of players like Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota. We're a special case there and different, so that's good.

"In China it's a long process. Only when you're in the top six of the Premier League you can have a big fanbase."
