Boss Slaven Bilic says Albion’s spirited performance against Tottenham set the standard they require to secure Premier League survival.

The Baggies may have lost the game to a last-gasp Harry Kane goal, but they controlled it for long spells.

And Bilic says he will be using the international break to remind his players that performances like that give them every chance of survival.

“We will rest for a couple of days and then we will be back in training,” the boss said. “We know what we have to do, what has to become our standard.

“We were so close against Tottenham, a top side – we played really well and we played a complete game.

“We weren’t just defending, we were pressing high, taking risks, taking the ball in the final third. Creating openings.

“We have to continue like this in every minute of the game – if we do we will have a chance in every game.

“That has to be our standard of working the games for 90 minutes.

“It wasn’t enough to win the Tottenham game. But if we do that we will get more chances, more balls, more second balls, more corners, more shots, more good opportunities, you are putting the opponent on the back foot.

“That is what we did against Tottenham. If we can do it against Spurs we can do it against any team.”

Another plus from the Tottenham game was the performance of Callum Robinson who joined Karlan Grant up front in a 3-5-2 formation.

And Bilic says he is eager to explore playing with two strikers to address his team’s lack of goals.

“We haven’t scored enough goals so far,” the boss admitted.

“We have created chances that we needed to take – against Burnley and Spurs for example.

“We have to find that fire power – that is one of the reasons why we started with two strikers against Tottenham.”
