Celtic issue statement branding West Brom 'ridiculous' and 'inaccurate' in war of words over Oliver Burke

Albion's technical director launched a furious criticism of the way Burke was treated by Celtic boss Neil Lennon during his loan spell at yesterday's unveiling of Slaven Bilic.

"He won’t be going anywhere near Celtic with the current manager," said Dowling.

"They know what’s gone on and Oli certainly knows what’s gone on. It’s just something we’re not happy with at all."

But the war of words has continued today after the Scottish champions issued an official statement this morning on their website in response.

"Following comments by West Bromwich Albion regarding Oliver Burke’s loan spell with Celtic in the second half of last season, the club has issued a statement," it read.

‘These comments, which question the professionalism of both Neil and Celtic Football Club, are ridiculous and completely inaccurate.

"West Brom have made no contact whatsoever with either Neil or the club in relation to Oliver.

"As with every player who comes to Celtic, Oliver received the very best of treatment and every support and opportunity.

"We wish Oliver the very best for the future."

Burke joined Celtic on loan in January when Brendan Rodgers was manager but after he moved to Leicester City the 22-year-old found minutes hard to come by under Lennon.

Dowling did not wish to elaborate on what sort of treatment Burke had received under the new Celtic boss, but confirmed he wouldn't be heading back to Glasgow.

Burke still has three years left on his Albion contract, and according to Dowling, new boss Bilic is 'excited' to work with him this coming season.
