West Brom have more England youth players than Manchester United or Liverpool
Albion have had more players in England’s youth teams this season than Manchester United and Liverpool – and just five clubs in the country boast more representatives than the Baggies.
The Championship club has had seven players in the England youth squads from under-16s up to under-21s.
That is one more than the world’s richest club, Manchester United, who have only had six representatives in those age groups, and two more than Liverpool, according to data gathered by youth team experts YouthHawk.
The Baggies are by far the best represented club in the Championship, and they also outrank the majority of Premier League sides.
Only Chelsea (23), Manchester City (18), Arsenal (16), Tottenham Hotspur (11) and Everton (8) boast more players in the national youth teams.
Albion’s magnificent seven include midfielders Sam Field and Kyle Edwards, who both featured for Paul Simpson’s U20s in a 2-1 win over Italy last week and started against Czech Republic tonight.
Fellow midfielder Rekeem Harper and defender Nathan Ferguson are currently in the U19 squad ran by former Albion coach Keith Downing. Harper featured in a 4-1 win over Portugal last week.
Striker Rayhaan Tulloch has been called up to an England U18 squad this season, although he’s yet to feature.
Morgan Rogers is in the current England U17s squad and the striker scored in their 3-1 win over USA last Friday.
Albion’s seventh representative is Louie Barry, who has played for England U16s this season after smashing 10 goals in five games for the U15s at a tournament in Italy earlier this year.
That means Mark Harrison’s academy have had player in every England age group barring the under-21s this season.
But Albion even have a player in Aidy Boothroyd’s current squad because Leicester loanee Harvey Barnes has been called up to the U21s on the back of his stellar performances for the Baggies.
Barnes could make his England U21 debut against Scotland tomorrow night after not being used against Andorra last week.
The England recognition doesn’t stop there either. Although Jonathan Leko is yet to be called up this season he has previously represented his country from U16 level all the way up to U19.
