Wes McDonald aims to be more consistent for Walsall

Walsall winger Wes McDonald insists finding consistency was his biggest challenge when he moved into men’s football.

The 22-year-old came through the Birmingham academy before joining Yeovil in 2018.

In January 2019 he was made a free agent before joining the Saddlers in the summer, where he has since gone on to have a successful League Two season – something he believes is down, in part, to finding some consistency.

“It’s difficult, that’s probably one of my main focuses when I come into a game every week – keeping the consistency,” he said.

“With a winger, sometimes you can be out of the game for 10 or 15 minutes and it might not be your fault.

“Wingers and strikers need the service so if you’re not getting that you might be out of the game for quite a bit of time. You want to keep your position and not go all the way to the other side. It’s difficult to keep that consistency but at any moment you can change the game.”
