Reports had emerged suggesting the Saddlers were in the race to land the 29-year-old, who is a free agent after leaving Rotherham.

Ball spent last season on loan at Bradford, scoring seven times in 42 appearances.

His signing would be seen as a major coup for Walsall with the forward having impressed in League One in recent years.

But the Express & Star understands there has been no contact between the Saddlers and the forward.

Walsall will need to enter the market for a striker if Andy Cook leaves the club this summer.

A number of clubs are understood to be interested in the 28-year-old, who scored 18-goals last season.

Grimsby were keen on the forward, but they have ended their interest after signing James Hanson and Matt Green.

Salford City and two other unknown League Two clubs are believed to be chasing the striker, though.
