Four left-backs who could aid Walsall

Earlier this week we looked at four goalkeepers the boss may be interested in signing.

Now, Joseph Masi turns his attentions to left-back with competition needed for youngster Callum Cockerill-Mollett.

Cohen Bramall

The 23-year-old was thrust into the limelight when Arsenal paid £40,000 to sign him from Hednesford Town in 2017.

While he prominently played for the Gunners’ under-23 side, he did join the first team for a pre-season tour of Australia and China.

Bramall made eight appearances for Blues after in a loan spell during the 2017/18 campaign but didn’t feature following the appointment of Garry Monk as boss.

Bramall is now a free agent, his next move needs to be for first-team football.

Mitch Clark

Recently released by Villa, Clark impressed in a loan spell at Port Vale last season.

Valiants boss John Askey has made no secret of his desire to re-sign the Wales under-19 international.

And his versatility is sure to be of interest to Darrell Clarke, who is known to favour players who can play in multiple positions.

Clark played at left-back, right-back and wing-back last season.

Since his release, the youngster has been linked with a move to the continent, with clubs in the German Bundesliga said to be keen.

Jack Doyle

Recently released by Blackburn after 12 years at Ewood Park, Doyle finished last season on loan with Derry City.

He previously impressed in the National League during a temporary switch to Maidstone United.

But his only appearances for Rovers first team came in the Checkatrade Trophy and Carabao Cup.

Now eager to start afresh, following his release from Blackburn, he said: “I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my career. Time to prove a lot of people wrong.”

Noah Smerdon

A known target for League Two rivals Exeter, Smerdon’s performances for Gloucester in the National League South have attracted interest from clubs in each of the top four divisions.

The 18-year-old trained with Watford last season, who consistently sent scouts to track his performances.

Chelsea have also been linked with the young full-back, who came through the youth ranks at Albion.

The Baggies are still entitled to compensation for the defender. That is understood to be a sticking point in his move to Exeter with the delay potentially allowing rivals to swoop.
