Following a strong start to the season, the Saddlers saw a marked down turn in results, resulting in the eventual sacking of Dean Keates with only a handful of games remaining of the campaign.

Martin O'Connor was tasked with guiding the Saddlers to survival in Keates' place, however he couldn't avoid the drop - with local rivals Shrewsbury casting the final blow to end a disappointing campaign.

Walsall needed to beat Shrewsbury to have any hope of survival, but also required results elsewhere to go in their favour.

However, the Saddlers couldn't grab the three points they needed at the Montgomery Waters Meadow, leading them to relegation.

Walsall will now be playing League Two football next season, with the futures of numerous players now cast into doubt.
