Mbwana Samatta poised for Aston Villa exit

Mbwana Samatta is heading for the Villa exit door – just nine months after joining the club.

The Tanzania international is poised to join Fenerbahce, initially on loan, with the deal expected to be complete by the end of the week.

Samatta has scored just one Premier League goal since joining Villa in an £8.5million move from Genk in January and has fallen behind Keinan Davis and club record signing Ollie Watkins in the pecking order.

The 28-year-old was not involved as Dean Smith’s team opened the new top flight season with a 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Monday.

Villa have spent more than £75m in the current window and while Smith has not ruled out further signings, there is also a focus on moving players out.

Frederic Guilbert, Henri Lansbury and Jota are among the players Villa are prepared to offload, along with goalkeepers Lovre Kalinic and Orjan Nyland.

Smith will speak with sporting director Johan Lange and chief executive Christian Purslow to discuss strategy for the rest of the window.

“We are still discussing the chance to get some in but we will have to wait and see,” he said.
