Scott Hogan eyes Aston Villa automatic promotion

Scott Hogan revealed the automatic promotion places are very much on Villa’s minds – and believes: “Derby might have gone too soon.”

Hogan has scored twice in his last two Championship games as Villa moved back into the play-off places with impressive victories over Bristol City and Nottingham Forest.

And the £12million striker, who had endured a testing first year in claret in blue, said Villa were intent on concentrating on their own game rather than reeling in Derby, who sit five points ahead of them in the table.

“I’ve said it before, five points is nothing,” the 25-year-old. “Derby might have gone too soon. They’ve won a hell of a lot of games and everyone has a dip in form. We’re not going to chase anyone. We’ll just keep doing our own thing.

“I’m sure if we do what we did last Saturday (against Forest), the quality will come.

“We should find ourselves where we want to be. There’s no panic. We just keep chugging along and hopefully we’ll find ourselves where we want to be.”

Meanwhile, Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa is now odds on with the bookies to join Villa on loan this month. The 31-year-old is out of favour at the King Power Stadium despite signing a new two-year deal only last summer.
