Seven in ABA Novice Midlands finals
Tuesday 1st November 2011, 6:00AM GMT.
Four amateurs from Priory Park ABC in Dudley lead a seven-strong contigent who will gun for glory in the Midlands finals of the ABA Novice Championships.
Sikander Rasool, Danial Hussain and Josh Aston – cousin of pro Ryan – are all in action at the Newdigate Social Club in Bedworth on Sunday.
But there will definitely be a Priory Park presence in the national finals as Vakar Hussain has recieved a ‘walk over’ – no opponent to box.
Walsall Wood ABC are also represented in Class A – boxers who have had between two and 10 bouts – by Tarlock Mander.
Mander had to fight tooth and nail to squeeze past Stuart Blairs, from the Tom Lowe ABC in Stoke-on-Trent, in a majority points decision last week to reach the Midlands final.
In Class B – boxers who have had between 11 and 20 bouts – Walsall Wood can also call welterweight David Egan with middleweight Andrew Robinson, from Lions ABC in Dudley, also involved.
Egan will be in with Kettering SOB’s George Wegner, who himself had to battle past Stoke ABC’s Anthony Bashford last week to take his place in the Midlands final.
Robinson will compete in a West Midlands derby with Earl Gordon, of Small Heath ABC in Birmingham.
