Four set to box in CYP quarter-finals
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 5:00AM BST.
Four West Midlands amateurs will get the chance to advance in the Clubs for Young People championships in the quick-fire quarter-finals.
Three of those fighters figure in Class C, boxers born in 1992 or 1993, at the Monty Hind Youth Club in Nottingham on Saturday afternoon.
While sole Wednesbury ABC representative Dale Doody ‘walks over’ – no opponent to box – another round, Walsall Wood ABC’s Mason Holmes will now join the fray.
The light heavyweight proceeded to the national rounds without boxing but faces a tough test in reigning CYP champion Jacob Peterson, from Cheshunt ABC in Hertfordshire.
Josh Stokes, of Wodensborough ABC in Wednesbury, goes up against the talented Jack Burnidge, from Stevenage ABC, while Wolverhampton ABC’s Carnell Brown is in with John Grotty, also from Stevenage ABC.
The last West Midlands fighter in Class B, boxers born in 1994, will see Pleck ABC’s Liam Etheridge take on Northern Irish teenager Joe Fitzpatrick, from the Holy Trinity ABC in Belfast.
Stokes, Sahota and Etheridge all boxed in the Midlands finals last Sunday in Hinckley, Leicestershire.
