Five advance to CYP national finals

Josh Stokes saw his opponent disqualified as he cruised past the Midlands decider to the national finals of the Clubs for Young People.

Stokes, of Wodensborough ABC in Wednesbury, was declared the winner after opponent Aktural Alom, from Hall Green ABC in Birmingham, was chucked out for biting at the end of the second of four rounds.

Brandon Lee Harper, also of Wodensbrough, was narrowly pipped to the regional finals but put up a fight against Hayden Walker, from Bracebridge ABC in Nottingham, only to lose out of points.

But the highly-talented Liam Etheridge, from Pleck ABC in Walsall, completely shut out Solihull ABC’s Haider Ali in an every round points win.

Wolverhampton ABC fighters endured contrasting fortunes. Carnell Brown is through, while Naresh Sahota bowed out on points.

Wednesbury ABC’s Dillon Rattu was also eliminated, widely outpointed by Harry Bray from the Heart of England ABC in Leicester.

But Wednesbury ABC will be represented by Dale Doody in the national finals who progressed via walk over – no opponent to box – as did Walsall Wood ABC’s Mason Holmes.
