Six back for Blues’ drop showdown
Friday 18th March 2011, 3:40PM GMT.
Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has six of the best back for the Premier League relegation showdown at Wigan.
Roger Johnson, Barry Ferguson, Stephen Carr, Martin Jiranek, Craig Gardner and Obafemi Martins will all go into the squad for Blues’ clash at the DW Stadium tomorrow after coming through training.
But Nikola Zigic, Keith Fahey, Lee Bowyer and David Bentley are all still doubts for the trip, although none have been ruled out as yet by McLeish.
He said: “We had a right few missing last week against Bolton and, if they had played last week, there could have been a danger of them incurring muscle injuries and being out for the next month or even longer.
“It was good for them to get a regeneration of the batteries and also to get some much needed treatment.
“Johnson, Ferguson, Carr, Jiranek, Gardner and Martins have all trained and were declared fit by the medical staff.
“Zigic, Fahey, Bowyer, Bentley did some separate work with the physios so they are the doubts.”
