Lee Bowyer escapes rap for row
Monday 20th September 2010, 11:26AM BST.
Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer will face no further action after apologising to an Albion season ticket-holder for an alleged foul-mouthed rant.
The Blues player was involved in a row with Baggies supporters behind the away dugout, after his substitution in Saturday’s derby defeat.
Albion fan Sandra Cox, who was sitting close to the bench with seven-year-old grandson Luke, complained to stewards.
She said: “Everyone was giving him abuse for the yellow card. He came off and swore at me.
“We sit there because it is the family area and we don’t want to hear that kind of language.”
However, an Albion statement has confirmed the matter is now closed.
He said: “A fan made a complaint to a steward over comments made by Lee Bowyer, who made an unreserved apology to the supporter. That was the end of the matter.
“No further action will be taken.”
Bowyer could be seen clearly apologising to fans in the aftermath of the incident, which occurred after his substitution following a fiery 10 minutes that ended with him being booked for a foul on Albion defender Gabriel Tamas.
Blues boss Alex McLeish said: “I did not hear anything myself. Someone said there were alleged comments by Lee. I could see him getting mouthfuls from angry people sitting in the stand.
“But the only thing I saw him do was see him put his hands up telling people to calm down.”

I’m really sorry but the ladies comments do not add up, ie Everyone was abusing him and then he swore at me , we sit here becuase we do not like the language.
If anyone can explain the logic of that then they are a better person than me.
If you abuse a player and then they react, you cannot really take the high moral ground can you ???

Not the nicest of blokes is he but the club are right to close this matter down. Where Bowyer made a big mistake was when he went in studs first to injure Jara only to receive a nasty surprise. There’s always someone harder than yourself and you found him Saturday Lee.

100% right mate.
Let me begin by saying i have no time for Bowyer, and indeed the foul on Tamas should have had a 10pm watershed, however the guy was getting dogs abuse, and that is fair game, and i do not condone his use of foul language in front of minors, but surely you reap what you sow.
