Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had appeared to be waiting for Villa to drop their asking price in the past couple of weeks but reports suggest he has now decided to make his move.

The Belgium international would be Liverpool's seventh signing in a summer spending spree and is believed to have his heart set on a move to Anfield.

Benteke, 24, has scored 49 goals in 101 appearances since arriving at Villa Park from Genk for £7m almost three years ago.

Meanwhile Villa are one of three Premier League clubs tracking Belgian star Dennis Praet about a possible summer move from Anderlecht.

Everton and Southampton are also keen on the highly-rated 21-year-old, although no bids have been tabled as yet.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood was due to complete the £9m signing of Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye in the next few days.

Villa have agreed personal terms with the Lille ace who hashad a medical at the club, and the transfer is likely to be sealed when he receives a work permit.
