Boss Tim Sherwood has made no secret of his desire to keep the on-loan Manchester United midfielder when his current contract at Old Trafford expires next month.

And Cleverley, who scored his third goal in as many games in Saturday's crucial 1-0 win over West Ham, is also keen to talk after admitting he is happy at Villa Park.

The 25-year-old said: "I think first and foremost you have to be playing at a club where you fit in.

"Where you're playing in the position where you want to play and where you like the manager, the lads – this club ticks those boxes.

"We'll just see what happens. First, the club have got to offer me something. Those talks haven't taken place yet.

"We're just concentrating on the football on the pitch, at moment. Long may that continue if we keep on winning games.

"I don't concentrate on these things too much. I just know my contract runs out on June 30 at Man United, that's my position."

Cleverley is also attracting interest from the likes of Everton and, on the continent, but he insists money won't be the only factor when it comes to choosing a new club.

He said: "I don't think any Premier League players are going to be short of a quid or two. You have just got to be happy first of all and I am at this club, so let's see where we go from there."

Sherwood was effusive in his praise of Cleverley after his goal put Villa within touching distance of Premier League safety.

The claret and blues now require just one win from their final two games to ensure survival and the manager hailed his commitment.

And Cleverley added: "You get what you see from me. I wear my heart on my sleeve whether I'm a loan player or not. I'm glad that's been recognised.

"I'm enjoying myself here, it's a great group of lads and I get on with the manager. Those are all factors."
