Mark Robson has been named as first-team coach, replacing Scott Marshall, while Seamus Brady joins the club as performance analyst.

Former Barnet boss Robson has followed in the footsteps of Marshall, who left on Tuesday after a game as caretaker boss, more than once.

The 45-year-old replaced him as Norwich's reserve chief when the Scot joined Villa in 2012 and, after moving on from Carrow Road in November, has worked with the FA in England's junior set-up.

Brady operated with Sherwood in the same role at Tottenham Hotspur and takes up the mantle at Villa Park, with his emphasis on assessment.

Meanwhile, Villa defender Chris Herd has returned to the club from a loan spell at Championship side Wigan Athletic with a knee injury.

It spells the end of the campaign for the 25-year-old Aussie, who tore his medial ligament in the Latics' 1-0 win over Reading on Tuesday night.
