Sanchez joined in the summer from Spanish top-flight side Elche and has begun to establish himself in the Villa side.

The Colombian defensive midfielder has fitted in with Villa's style and Lambert said: "I think he's getting better. I think he's adapted brilliantly to it.

"He's come from Spain. He's had a long year due to the World Cup. But he's a right top player."

Sanchez played a vital role in keeping Villa in contention during Saturday's derby against Albion after midfield partner Kieran Richardson was sent off in the first half.

Meanwhile, Villa could face a double Argentinian danger at the weekend.

Manchester United duo Angel di Maria and Marcos Rojo look likely to shake off their injury problems for Saturday's Premier League clash at Villa Park.

Defender Rojo was injured in training and missed the 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday, but his thigh complaint is improving.

Winger Di Maria has missed the last three matches due to a slight hamstring tear.
