The 22-year-old finished as Villa's second top hitman with five goals during his first season in the top flight.

And, because of his versatility, the utility man is looking for a more attacking role in Paul Lambert's team this campaign.

He said: "I felt that it went OK for me last season. I was a new lad so I was just getting used to the Premier League but I think it went better than I thought.

"Now I must keep going and try to better what I did last year."

And, despite his stunning strike against Manchester City last season, Bacuna admits his goal output took him by surprise.

He said: "It was higher than I thought it would be. I was just doing the best that I could for myself and my team-mates.

"I started scoring free-kicks when I was young and I just continued as I grew up.

"It's not something I have learned but I still have to practise a lot.i stay behind after training to practise and I take some extra free-kicks one day before the game as well.

"Obviously, I know that every time I have a free-kick people will expect things from me now.

"The opposition will know all about it, too.

"I have different styles and different ways of taking them.

"I can hit them more powerfully or do different things with the ball. It depends on the situation."
