Marc Albrighton was today on the brink of leaving Villa with Leicester prepared to swoop.

The winger is out of contract next month and the newly promoted Foxes are ready to offer him a lucrative £35,000-a-week deal.

It is double what the 24-year-old is on at Villa Park with talks on a new deal having stalled with Randy Lerner preparing to sell the club.

Paul Lambert revealed last month Villa had opened tentative discussions with the player's agent but Albrighton is now expected to leave.

Lambert said: "I don't know about Marc. But the main thing is this club has to be right. It leaves everything open because of the 'for sale' aspect of it."

The ambitious Foxes are ready to hand Albrighton a four-year contract to end his long association with Villa.

The former trainee came through the ranks to make his debut against CSKA Moscow in 2009 and has made 101 appearances, scoring nine times.

He suffered an injury-plagued 2013 with a broken foot, hamstring and thigh injuries stalling his career.

But he made 25 appearances last season after regaining his fitness during a loan spell at Wigan in November.

Despite being one of Villa's most consistent performers, he was not guaranteed a starting role, something which is likely to be on offer at the King Power Stadium.
