Another awful season for Villa ended with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at Spurs.

The visitors were blown away by the home side's first half treble – goals coming from Paulinho, Emmanuel Adebayor's penalty and a Nathan Baker own goal.

Villa barely threatened during the game, with a Fabian Delph shot which whistled just wide the closest they came.

And visiting fans turned their anger on under-pressure manager Paul Lambert, chanting "We want Lambert out" and "You're getting sacked in the morning" at the beleaguered boss.

Villa owner Randy Lerner is expected to make a statement clarifying his own position in the coming days.

Lambert's situation remains uncertain but if this was his final game in charge, his reign could not have ended in a more limp fashion as Villa finished the campaign with 38 points – three fewer than last season.

Villa were second best from the first whistle to the last, not testing home keeper Hugo Lloris until late in the second half as the hosts cruised it.

The visitors were boosted by the return to fitness of Gabby Agbonlahor, who returned to the side in place of Karim El Ahmadi, one of two changes from Wednesday's 4-0 defeat at Manchester City. The other switch saw Leandro Bacuna come in for Ciaran Clark.

Spurs created the first real chance five minutes in when Adebayor crossed from the left and Harry Kane sent a header straight at Guzan from a good position.

The Villa keeper was forced into a far better save soon after, blocking a Kane shot from close range after Adebayor had once again found his strike partner with a clever pass.

But the visitors defences were breached 14 minutes in. A fine move from the home side led to Christian Eriksen dinking a ball through and though Guzan saved Paulinho's first attempt, the midfielder was left with the simple task of stroking home the rebound.

The same player then should have made it two moments later after once more being left with a clear sight of goal but he shanked the shot wide.

Villa were showing little as an attacking force but Agbonlahor did squander a decent chance to level midway through the period when he headed over from close range, after Andreas Weimann had flicked on a Delph corner.

Guzan was then forced to tip over after a Kane run and cross saw the ball deflect toward the goal by a combination of Adebayor and Villa skipper Ron Vlaar.

But the Villa keeper was beaten for a second time ten minutes before the break – this time by his own man. The visitors failed to clear and Danny Rose's cross deflected in off Baker's shoulder as he was put under pressure by Emmanuel Adebayor.

Delph then brilliantly denied Kane a clean shot at goal as he went clean through but the third goal was still quick to arrive. Agbonlahor was penalised for blocking a Sandro shot with his arm and Adebayor smashed the penalty high into the net.

Spurs might have grabbed a fourth before the break but Guzan brilliantly kept out Dawson's header which was destined for the bottom corner.

Westwood did manage a shot from distance for Villa deep into stoppage time, which was met by ironic cheers from both home and visiting supporters.

Delph got even closer with a rasping drive which whistled just past the post with ten minutes gone in the second half.

The midfielder also tested Spurs keeper Lloris with Villa's first attempt on target – ten minutes before the end of a second half which was largely a procession.
