Agbonlahor, who has scored three times this season, has played both out wide and through the middle for the claret and blues.

Lambert believes the experience of playing on the wing will help the 27-year-old as he gets older.

"I'd seen Gabby playing wide anyway before I came here, so I knew what he could do," said Lambert.

"His speed's a big, big asset to him and to us. As he gets older I'm pretty sure the experience of playing wide will help him so he knows how to do that and play through the middle. That will certainly benefit him."

Agbonlahor, who joined Villa as a youngster, is expected to be offered a new four-year deal in the summer. His current deal expires in 2015.

Lambert added: "None of the lads have ever spoken about any renewals or contracts or anything.

"Everybody just wants to play the games. I'm sure there will be a time and a place for that at the end of the season.

"Gabby's been here a long time and it's rare to be at the same club for that length of time."
