Jed Steer could cost Villa £1.175m after a fee was set following the keeper's move from Norwich.

The 21-year-old turned down a new contract with the Canaries to reunite with Paul Lambert at Villa last summer.

Norwich were due the cash because they had offered him a deal and he is under 24 but the clubs failed to agree terms, forcing a tribunal.

Villa must pay the Canaries £450,000 up front with another £500,000 owed depending on appearances.

If the England under-19 international plays sufficient under-21 and senior games Norwich will get a further £225,000.

The Canaries are also entitled to a 20 per cent sell-on fee if Steer is sold by Villa.

Norwich chief executive David McNally said: "We are extremely pleased with the outcome of this matter after a very fair hearing with the Professional Compensation Committee."

A Villa statement added: "We are very happy with the PFCC's decision following the tribunal hearing earlier in the week and believe that the guaranteed amount of compensation, as well as the overall structure of the decision, is fair and reflects the points we put before the committee."

Steer has made three cup appearances for Villa this season but is yet to feature in the Premier League.
