Paul Lambert today revealed Marc Albrighton has undergone a throat operation and admitted he is considering sending him on loan to regain fitness.
The Villa midfielder went under the knife before Sunday’s Tottenham game to cure a minor problem but is now training again.
It comes after an injury-hit year when he missed the second half of last season with a broken foot and suffered a thigh injury in pre-season.
Derby have previously been linked with a move for Albrighton, whose only outing has been the 4-0 League Cup defeat to Tottenham in September.
“He had a little throat operation during the week before the Spurs game but he’s back from that,” he said.
“There have been one or two asking for him. I have had a chat with Marc but I don’t know, I’m not so sure. He’s doing alright in training, he’s working hard.
“He’s been unfortunate because he was out with his metatarsal and that’s been a blow. Against Spurs in the cup he was excellent.”
