Villa boss Paul Lambert today revealed Christian Benteke could return within the next three weeks.
The striker is recovering from a hip injury and was initially ruled out for up to six weeks.
Benteke tweeted yesterday he is already off his crutches less than a week after suffering the setback at Norwich.
And Lambert hopes the five-goal striker could be fit to face Tottenham on October 20.
“He’s doing great. I think he’ll be back quicker than expected. The international break will come at the right time for him and us,” he said, ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Manchester City.
“The worst fear was he was going to be out for a considerable time but the way he has progressed, everyone is pretty happy with him.”
But Lambert insisted Benteke will not be fit to help Belgium qualify for the World Cup. They need a point from their matches against Croatia and Wales to qualify for Brazil next year.
Lambert said: “If Christian doesn’t play for us I don’t think he’ll be fit for Belgium.”
