Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert today insisted his side will be ready for their daunting start to the new season.
Villa go to Arsenal on day one of the Premier League season on August 17 and host Liverpool a week later.
Their game at Chelsea has been postponed due to the Blues’ Super Cup clash against Bayern Munich on August 30.
Lambert, who takes the squad to Germany on Sunday, believes his new-look team will be prepared.
He said: “You have to be ready. We’ve got to go to Arsenal on the first day.
“That’s the thing, you go there and first day of the season everybody is expecting probably Arsenal to win.
“But we’ll certainly go down there and be ready for it. We played well down there last year. It was only the last five minutes that we conceded a goal.”
The squad jet out to Germany for a training camp on Sunday and play three games ahead of their first pre-season match in England at Wycombe on July 20.
Any new arrivals before they leave are unlikely with the focus on preparing the current squad for the week.
Villa have been linked with Nuremberg’s £10m-rated Hiroshi Kiyotake but have yet to make an offer.
