Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert today insisted striker Gabby Agbonlahor is winning his fitness fight to face champions-elect Manchester United.

The forward was sidelined for Villa's 1-1 draw with Fulham on Saturday with a suspected hip injury.

In-form Agbonlahor has three goals in his last four games to equal Dwight Yorke's record of 60 Premier League goals for the club.

He was a major miss against the Cottagers but Lambert is positive the 26-year-old can recover in time for their Old Trafford trip on Monday.

The Villa boss said: "We lost Gabby, which was a blow to us. It was too early for him. But he's doing really well and, hopefully, he will be back for the next game."

Agbonlahor has spearheaded Villa's Premier League revival with the club three points above the drop zone.

Wigan could plunge them back into the bottom three on goal difference with a win at Manchester City tomorrow.

Fabian Delph's own goal cost Villa two vital points in the race for safety after Charles N'Zogbia fired them ahead.

But N'Zogbia has no doubts Delph can recover from his slip and focus on guiding Villa to safety.

N'Zogbia said: "No, it's fine, Fabian has been playing for many years. You just have to forget about those games, tomorrow's another day and he'll be back at training.

"He needs to forget it. Fab will bounce back. He'll be focussed on the next game.

"He's been injured but now he's back in the team and I'm happy for him."

N'Zogbia joined the claret and blues for £9million from Wigan in 2011 and he insisted Villa will keep their cool in the last five games – ahead of a potential do-or-die final day showdown with the Latics.

He said: "You just have to stay calm and play your game. Be confident in yourself and don't be scared or be thinking about relegation.

"Just think about football and think about winning. It's the only way. Block out everything else and focus on yourself.

"At the end of the season, we will know what's going to happen."
