Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert today warned potential transfer targets he is not interested in players who only want to boost their wage packets.

The Scot's mobile phone has been red hot since the transfer window opened as the claret and blues have been linked with a host of players at home and abroad.

The manager has already strengthened Villa's squad with the signing of midfielder Karim El Ahmadi from Feyenoord and defender Matthew Lowton from Sheffield United for a total of about £6m.

And Lambert revealed that he will not bring in players who are solely motivated by the financial rewards on offer at Villa.

He said: "The phone's been going mad, all the time. It's a bit of a pain, but I just don't answer it sometimes!

"You get people on to you all the time and then you find out they want ridiculous money before they will even talk to you, but that's the nature of the game.

"I don't think you get enjoyment from that part of the game, it's frustrating.

"You think something's going to get done and then it doesn't and then it's back on again and then it isn't.

"It can go like that when people are being greedy."
