Robbie Keane move puts Nathan Delfouneso out on loan

Robbie Keane’s arrival has paved the way for Nathan Delfouneso to head out on loan and Villa boss Alex McLeish today urged the young forward to “come back a man”.

Ex-Wolves striker Keane was unveiled as a Villa player this afternoon after the final bit of paperwork for his temporary switch from LA Galaxy was completed.

And the extra striking option has enabled McLeish to consider loan offers for Delfouneso, who has been largely restricted to appearances from the bench.

“A loan for Nathan is something we’ll think about. There have not been any offers yet, but we have had a chat with his agent and he is going to have a look around,” said McLeish.

“It would be great if Nathan got regular football and came back from being a boy into a man.”

Keane said: “I’m delighted to be back in the Premier League. This is only short-term, of course, but there has been a lot of speculation over the years linking my name to Villa and, finally, I’m here. I’m excited about it and I know I’ll really enjoy my time here.

“It’s only for two months but I will do my absolute best in these two months.

“Villa is a great club, a club with a massive tradition and standing in the game.”

“If selected to play on Saturday, I will genuinely be looking forward to it and I’ll be excited to be involved again in Premier League action.

“I’ve been training with the players here for the past few days and it’s been great but I’m not naive enough to think I’ll just walk straight into the team.

It has been difficult to get him and Andreas Weimann minutes.

“I won’t let them both out at the same time but I would like to see Nathan get regular football.”

Also linked with a loan move is Fabian Delph who is reported to be interesting former club Leeds, but McLeish is no hurry to let the young midfielder go out.

“I would need to think about that one very carefully,” he said.
