Jermaine Jenas is backing Aston Villa striker Darren Bent to score at Spurs

Aston Villa midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes Darren Bent could make Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp eat his words when the striker returns to White Hart Lane.

Spurs boss Redknapp infamously berated Bent for a miss against Portsmouth back in January 2009 and claimed at the time that his “missus could have scored that” after the striker headed wide from close range.

But Jenas, who is on loan from Tottenham and ineligible to face his parent club tonight, believes Bent has improved a great deal from his time in North London.

Jenas said: “I think the statement by Harry itself was probably blown up out of proportion so everyone was going to highlight it. At the same time, ‘Benty’ did what he wanted to do and left the club.

“Everyone wants to do well when they go back to one of their old clubs. I am sure he will want to go to White Hart Lane and want to score.”
