Aston Villa hopeful Gabby Agbonlahor will be fit to face Tottenham

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish was today optimistic that Gabby Agbonlahor will recover from a hamstring injury and be passed fit enough to play against Tottenham.

The 25-year-old forward pulled out of the England squad last Friday and missed the Three Lions friendly win over Spain on Saturday and tonight’s clash with Sweden.

Agbonlahor is working on the injury with Villa’s medical staff which means he should be able to resume full training before the weekend and be in the squad for the trip to White Hart Lane next Monday.

McLeish said: “Gabby has not joined the group yet but we are hopeful he will be back towards the end of the week. I think he has got a chance for Tottenham.”
