Aston Villa’s Emile Heskey happy to be boss Alex McLeish’s ‘flexible friend’

Aston Villa forward Emile Heskey today revealed he is happy to be manager Alex McLeish’s ‘flexible friend’ if it means he keeps his place in the starting line-up.

The experienced forward has found his chances up front limited this season because of the form of Gabby Agbonlahor and Darren Bent, who have started to work effectively as a strike partnership.

It has seen Heskey shifted to the left flank recently while he has also been played in an advanced central midfield role, as McLeish has sought to add more physical presence to the team.

Heskey was praised by the Villa boss for his attitude towards playing in different positions and the 33-year-old is pleased his versatility has proved to be a useful asset.

He said: “I am playing in a few different positions but I am really enjoying it. I will play wherever because it’s nice to be involved. I’m enjoying football and that’s the key.”
