Friday 11th November 2011, 9:28AM GMT.
Super-sub Gary Gardner today targeted the Aston Villa first team after his stunning double blast for the England under-21s.
Gardner’s brilliant second-half brace sealed a 5-0 win over Iceland as the Young Lions cantered towards Euro 2013 qualification in Colchester last night.
They top Group Eight ahead of their game in Belgium on Monday after West Brom defender Craig Dawson, Marvin Sordell and Martin Kelly also notched.
Villa assistant boss Peter Grant insisted yesterday the 19-year-old, who is yet to make a senior appearance, was set for a first-team breakthrough and now the midfielder wants that chance.
Gardner said: “I have faith in the Villa staff so I trust in everything they say. Every time I step on the pitch I’ll give 100 per cent so hopefully I’ll go back to my club, work hard and get a chance.”
