Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor pulls out of England squad
Friday 11th November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor suffered England heartache today when he was ruled out of the glamour friendly against Spain at Wembley.
The in-form frontman suffered a hamstring injury during training and has been sent back to Villa Park for treatment, ahead of tomorrow’s game.
It represents a massive blow for the 25-year-old, who had targeted gatecrashing England boss Fabio Capello’s plans for Euro 2012, after bagging five goals in a red-hot start to the season.
The FA confirmed: “Gabriel Agbonlahor has today returned to Aston Villa. Having been assessed by the England medical staff, Agbonlahor was unable to train today at Wembley and has returned to his club.”
The injury is likely to rule the three-cap striker out of Tuesday’s friendly against Sweden, also at Wembley.
