Barry Bannan back in training at Aston Villa after internal inquiry suspended
Tuesday 1st November 2011, 11:00AM GMT.
Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan returned to training today after the club suspended the internal inquiry into allegations of his involvement in a drink driving incident.
The 21-year-old Scot was arrested by police along with Shrewsbury striker James Collins, a former Villa team-mate, on suspicion of drink driving in the early hours of October 23 after an accident on the M1.
Bannan was bailed until December and was subsequently suspended by the club as they conducted their own investigations into the matter, while Scotland coach Craig Levein also left the youngster out of the squad for their friendly with Cyprus on November 10.
It’s not yet clear whether Bannan will be considered for selection for the first team against Norwich this weekend but Villa boss Alex McLeish confirmed that the player has been allowed to return to train with his team-mates at Bodymoor Heath.
McLeish said: “Barry Bannan returned to training today. The club has suspended internal enquiries into allegations which arose a couple of weeks ago, pending the outcome of police enquiries. We will not be commenting further.”
