Villa tried to sign Sebastian Larsson
Saturday 29th October 2011, 11:29AM BST.
Boss Alex McLeish tried to bring Sebastian Larsson to Aston Villa after the midfielder quit Birmingham.
The former St Andrew’s chief wanted to be reunited with the Sweden international but was beaten by ex-Blues manager Steve Bruce at Sunderland.
McLeish managed midfielder Larsson at Blues before his own controversial switch across the Second City in the summer.
And he said he swooped for the 26-year-old – but he was already on the way to join the Black Cats, who Villa were visiting today, after seeing out his contract at Birmingham.
“I tried to get him in the window but Sunderland were too far down the road. Seb is a brilliant bloke, fantastic professional and definitely a team player with a very dangerous delivery. We just got there too late,” said McLeish.
