James Collins backs Aston Villa pal Stephen Warnock for England call
Thursday 27th October 2011, 12:59PM BST.
James Collins today tipped Villa defensive colleague Stephen Warnock to force his way back into the England reckoning.
Warnock, who has won two caps for England, was in Fabio Capello’s 23-man squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The 29-year-old left-back’s career for club and country stalled last season after he was frozen out of Villa’s first-team squad by former boss Gerard Houllier and forced to train with the reserves.
But Wales defender Collins has seen enough in Warnock’s performances during this campaign to suggest he could press for an international recall in the near future.
“He’s come back strongly and been great. I think he had been first class and in all our games you could see a bounce in his step,” said Collins.
