Aston Villa win appeal against Chris Herd red card against West Brom
Tuesday 25th October 2011, 1:44PM BST.
Aston Villa utility man Chris Herd will be available for trip to Sunderland at the weekend after the FA today rescinded the red card he picked up against West Brom.
With Villa leading 1-0, the 22-year-old Australian was shown a straight red card by referee Phil Dowd, after consultation with his assistant, for an alleged stamp on Jonas Olsson as the Baggies went on to clinch a 2-1 win.
Television replays of the incident appeared to show Herd trying to free his foot from Olsson and Villa immediately lodged an appeal for wrongful dismissal with the FA, which was upheld.
Herd said: “I’m very happy with the decision and I feel vindicated because I was convinced all along I had done nothing wrong.
“My foot was being held and I was just trying to free it from his grasp. I’m grateful and glad that the appeals committee reached the right decision.”
